disable or bypass the Recycle Bin

When you disable the recycle bin in Windows, everything that is deleted will be completely removed from your system and wont go into the temporary holder name "recycle bin".

That means that if wont be easy for someone to snoop around your computer and see what was in that file. To some degree it can still be done, but it needs more work.

The other side of that issue is that when you send the wrong file to the recycle bin you have a chance to recover it. When you delete it it is gone without some special software.

If you feel the recycle bin is too much of a privacy threat then you may want to hold down the SHIFT key when hitting delete, or make the following tweak and the recycle bin will never be use.

  1. navigate the registry
    1. HKLM
    2. Software
    3. Microsoft
    4. Windows
    5. Current version
    6. Explorer
    7. BitBucket
  2. add/modify the registry entry
    • data name = "NukeOnDelete"
    • data type = REG_DWORD
    • data value to use the recycle bin a file = 00000000
    • data value to permanently delete a file = 00000001
