Tahquitz canyon

A pleasant family oriented hike at the base of the San Jacinto mountains, just a few miles from Palm Springs. One minute you are in a desert city and the next you are in an oasis of lush vegetation from the water from the mountain. In Frank Capra's movie "lost horizons", it is called "shangrilla". The scene where the plane crash survivors meet under a water fall was shot here. |
Palomar mountain
| [inline:000_0061_150x113.jpg] | The top of Palomar mountain has an amazing view. We could see the ocean and possibly what's left of the El Toro marine base. The hike itself was rather easy but at the beginning it did have a bit of an incline. Very soon it eased up completely. |

Ernie Maxwell is a nice, shaded, and fairly even 5 mile trail with some wonderful views of Suicide and Tawhutah Rock which are both popular with rock climbers and repellers. I'm pretty sure I repelled off suicide rock when I was a teenager. |
Peter's Canyon in Orange, California

Peter's Canyon is an easy or intermediate 5 to 6 mile hike with different terrains you can choose. It is used for training and conditioning for both runners and walkers. |
